When creating a project on JustServe, you’ll choose how often the project takes place. This choice affects how volunteers understand when to participate and how reliably projects are staffed. Projects with clearly defined dates and times generally provide the best experience for both volunteers and administrators.
Project Types: Single day | Multiple days/times | Recurring | Ongoing
Single day
One-time projects take place on a single, specific date and time. This is the simplest and most common project type and works best for events that occur only once, such as a single service activity or volunteer opportunity.
Multiple days/times
Multi-day projects include more than one specific date and time range within a single project. The selected dates do not need to be consecutive and can be spread out over time. This project type works best when there are only a limited number of dates that belong to the same effort.
Recurring
Recurring projects take place on a repeating schedule, such as every Monday and Wednesday or on the third Monday of each month. These projects are ideal when there are many scheduled dates or when the same activity happens regularly. Each occurrence appears as a normal, date-specific project to volunteers, while allowing administrators to manage frequent events efficiently.
Ongoing
Ongoing projects do not have specific event dates or times and instead run continuously between a start and end date, often over weeks or months. While they can be quick to create, ongoing projects frequently lead to confusion because volunteers may arrive at different times with no coordinator present. For this reason, ongoing projects should be used sparingly and only for activities that can truly be completed independently, such as donation drives or other do-it-yourself opportunities.
In general, single day, multiple days/times, or recurring projects are preferred whenever there are known dates. These project types set clearer expectations, improve coordination, and create a more reliable volunteer experience.
