Students may encounter questions or challenges when starting a club. Here are helpful responses you can be prepared to give.
“WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH SERVICE CLUBS.”
JustServe adds value by providing simple, flexible service opportunities that any student can participate in. It focuses on meaningful, local service and can complement existing clubs rather than replace them.
“THIS WILL TAKE STUDENTS FROM OTHER CLUBS.”
JustServe can strengthen other clubs by helping them find service opportunities and partner on projects. It works alongside existing clubs and encourages collaboration rather than competition.
“WE’RE NOT SURE THIS WILL WORK AT OUR SCHOOL.”
Every school is different, and there is flexibility to adapt the club to fit your school’s structure, schedule, and needs. Clubs can start small and grow over time.
IF YOU ENCOUNTER RESISTANCE, ASK:
- Would the school consider it with strong student interest?
- What steps are required for approval?
- What can we do now to prepare?
HELPFUL NEXT STEPS
- Talk to student leadership or administration
- Find a faculty advisor
- Build interest and support among students
IF A CLUB IS NOT APPROVED
- Join another service club
- Use JustServe to help support their service efforts
- Share JustServe opportunities with others.
FACULTY ADVISOR COMMITMENT
Faculty advisors who may be concerned about time commitments can be assured that clubs are designed to be flexible. Meetings and service activities can take place at a variety of times, during the school day, after school, or at other convenient times, with the advisor providing guidance and a meeting space.
Clubs are student-led and advisor-supported. Off-campus opportunities may be optional, should follow school policies and procedures, and allow the school advisor to determine their level of involvement and when their presence is needed.
